The gram sabha of Navelim panchayat strongly demanded immediate stopping of sewage from Margao city discharged in Saipem Lake in Navelim.
Gram sabha members raised their voice against the discharge of sewage in the lake, saying the discharge has polluted the ground water. A resolution was adopted demanding that the treatment plant at Saipem be handed over to Navelim panchayat as the MMC had failed to maintain it and that Margao has its own sewerage plant within its own jurisdiction.
Gram sabha members also raised their voice against Public Works Department acquiring land without following proper procedure. The members objected to roads being shown 15 meters in the proposed RP-2021 when the existing internal roads were just 6 meters in width. It was demanded that before making any change in width of roads the property owners be consulted and until such a process is completed no land be acquired.
The issue of garbage disposal by the multi stored dwellings also came up for discussion with gram sabha demanding that buildings having no proper garbage disposal site and occupied, be asked to vacate. Gram sabha members also raised the issue of rooms/tenements being rented out by locals to migrants who are also given NOC by the owners to avail facility of ration card and even voting card.
A demand was made that the panchayat direct the owners to revoke such NOCs given to migrants as there is fear with influx of migrants, locals could become be minority.
