The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has started developing a huge sanitary landfill site in South Delhi to dispose of the massive amount of garbage generated daily. It is also in the process of acquiring another huge piece of land for the same in North-West Delhi. The landfill sites being developed will be able to take care of Delhi's garbage for the next 20 to 25 years. The Regional Plan-2021 of the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) states that the daily generation of solid waste of 8,000 metric tonnes now will shoot up to 15,000 metric tonnes by 2021. According to MCD's Additional Commissioner (Environment Management Services) K.D. Akolia, a huge engineered sanitary landfill site is being developed at Jaitpur near Badarpur in South Delhi that would meet the need of Delhi's garbage for at least the next two decades. "Work is on at a fast pace and dumping of garbage will start soon," he informed.
