Media should highlight the real issues concerning the vast population of the nation living in the rural areas instead of trivialising the news to entertain its readers or viewers. These views were expressed by Mr A.J. Philip, Senior Associate Editor of The Tribune, while inaugurating a one-day workshop on "Role of media in rural development', organised by the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD) here today.Mr Philip expressed his concern over the media deviating from its role of social responsibility. Giving a brief background of the evolution of media, he said the basic idea of publishing newspapers or periodicals was to highlight the real issues concerning the masses so as to exert pressure on the rulers or the policy framers to make policies to suit the needs of the people.
