Hundreds of thousands of people living in Geelong and towns on Melbourne's north-west fringe are facing a summer of water restrictions after another year of drought. Melburnians have also been urged to use water sparingly, although restrictions in the metropolitan area are unlikely after the recent spell of wet weather. Eleven towns in the Melton-Sunbury area had restrictions introduced from midnight last night due to depletion of local water storages.
