Mercury plunges further, Mt Abu shivers at 1.4°C

Jaipur: Mercury continued to take a dip across the state as cold wave conditions continued. Mount Abu in hills while Sriganganagar in plains remained coldest in the state and recorded a minimum temperature of 1.4 and 2.3 degrees Celsius, respectively, the Met reports said on Tuesday. Jaipurites woke up to another cold morning as the city witnessed a minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius, almost 3 notches below the normal minimum temperature. It was followed by a cold afternoon as the city witnessed a maximum temperature of 22 degrees Celsius, almost one notch below the normal maximum temperature. Though ground frost was witnessed in the farms during early morning hours, no fog was reported in and around Jaipur. However, due to fog and mist in Punjab, Delhi and Haryana at least half-a-dozen early morning trains arrived late at the Jaipur railway station. No air movement was affected as the flight operations from the Jaipur airport were normal. Fue to fog in northern Rajasthan including Dausa, Dholpur, Karauli and Bharatpur the road traffic especially on Jaipur-Agra highway was affected. The buses to Agra from Jaipur took at least 8 hours to reach the destination. Attributing the continued dip in the mercury to active northerly winds the Met office said that the ongoing spell of cold wave conditions will continue for the next 24 hours. The cold wave conditions will aggravate in the state. Jaipur Met office said that throughout the week the mercury will decrease and cold would be witnessed at many places in the northern and eastern parts of the state. In its forecast the Met office said that heavy ground frost would be witnessed in northern parts of the state in the next 24 hours. Mount Abu and Sriganganagar were followed by Churu that recorded a minimum temperature of 2.8 degrees Celsius, Pilani 3.1, Chittorgarh 3.5, Udaipur 3.8, Bikaner 4.5, Ajmer 6.7, Jaisalmer 6.8, Jodhpur 8.2 and Barmer recorded a minimum temperature of 9 degrees Celsius.
