The safety of Laguna Verde, Mexico's only nuclear power plant, has become the topic of a heated debate between regulatory agencies, international monitoring associations, environmentalists, and local residents. On one side of the debate are the Mexican government and the International Atomic Energy Agency, which claim that Laguna Verde is safe and efficient. On the other side are local residents, former employees, and Greenpeace, who claim that the facility is a time bomb ticking away.
