Even before the national mission on bio-diesel takes off, the ministries of agriculture and rural development are vying for control. At stake is a corpus of around Rs 1,400 crore, which the Planning Commission will allot to the mission on bio-diesel. The earlier NDA government had designated the ministry of rural development as the nodal ministry for the nationwide bio-diesel programme. The brief given to the rural development ministry was to conceptualise the programme for exploiting bio-diesel through large scale plantation of non edible oil seeds and plants like jatropha curcus and so on.
