Ministry statistics shows reduced number of livestock and fowls

There was slump in livestock farming in the country as compared to last year.
According to the preliminary estimate of the agro products of the FY 2070-71 BS publicized by the ministry, the productivity of the cow farming, buffalo rearing, and poultry has come down as compared to last year.
This is made public on the basis of the inspection and suggestions of the districts and regional offices, central directorate, departments and technical committee, said Ministry Joint Spokesperson Tek Prasad Luintel.
The statistics brought to light as per the agreement of World Food Program and FAO-Nepal and the Ministry, number of buffalos and he- buffaloes came down by 1.89 percent and cattle by 1.17 percent.
Poultry came down by 4.67 percent, eggs by 4.75 percent and sheep farming by 2.51 percent, said Luintel.
The Ministry claims that it came down because of the high demand of meat as compared to production and bird flu spread last year in the country. However, the number of she goats, pigs and ducks has increased by 4.02, 5.06 and 3.79 percent respectively.
