The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has ordered Northern States Power (NSP), a Minneapolis-based utility, to acquire another 400 MW of wind generation by the year 2012. NSP is already required by 1994 state legislation to obtain 425 MW. NSP is currently buying power from 132 MW of wind turbines located on Buffalo Ridge in south western Minnesota near the community of Lake Benton.
