More flood relief for Madhya Pradesh

Heavy rain and floods have so far claimed 31 lives in the State prompting the Government to allocate additional funds of Rs12.47 crore for the flood-affected 23 districts. Eight persons lost their life in Hoshangabad district, followed by Bhopal where six persons died due to rains and floods. Three deaths each were reported from Ujjain and Dewas districts, two each from Damoh, Betul and Chhindwara, while one person each was killed in Sehore, Dhar, Seoni, Ratlam and Khandwa.
Besides human loss, 319 cattle heads perished, mostly in Sehore, Hoshangabad and Chhindwara due to floods and rains which also damaged 14,056 houses and 971 shanties in the state, the release said.
A total of 675.9 mm rainfall was registered in the state till yesterday, 66 mm more than the average. Till now, 18 districts have registered above normal rains, 28 normal and four districts have witnessed below normal rains. No
district has registered scanty rainfall.
The state government is also making available additional relief as per the demand from the districts affected by excessive rains and floods, the release said.
So far, additional relief funds worth Rs12.47 crore have been made available to 23 districts. Before the onset of monsoon, Rs5 crore was provided to the districts.
Rupees 2.80 crore was provided to Sehore district, followed by Bhopal (Rs1.75 crore), Dewas (Rs1.50 crore) and Hoshangabad (Rs1.25 crore).
The other districts which were provided funds were Raisen, Harda, Rewa, Vidisha, Khargone, Dindori, Rajgarh, Sagar, Burhanpur, Jabalpur, Sidhi, Katni, Seoni, Singrauli, Chhindwara and Panna, the release added.
