Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has sanctioned Rs 130.74 crore towards compensation to be paid to the landowners in West Kameng, East Kameng and Papum Pare districts of Arunachal Pradesh who would be affected by the construction of the Nechipu–Hoj stretch of Trans–Arunachal Highway (TAH).
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and Lok Sabha member Takam Sanjoy had, in response to a memorandum submitted during a public meeting at Leporiang in March last, pursued the MoRTH secretary over the matter of compensation, having urged the public to allow the construction of TAH from Nechipu to Hoj in anticipation of the compensation to be sanctioned by the Centre.
In a letter to MoRTH secretary Vijay Chibber in March, Sanjoy had informed that the work on the TAH is already delayed by nearly 3 years, and had requested for expediting the sanctioning of the compensation package for the Nechipu–Hoj stretch which had already been submitted by the State government.
The MP yesterday urged the State government and the district administrations to expedite the payment of compensation to enable land acquisition for the project, official sources said here today.
He also urged the administrations concerned to ‘immediately take up the matter of land compensation for the Putin–Pangin via Ziro–Daporijo–Bame–Aalo stretch of the project, so that the works are not held up further,’ sources added.
