MP raises quota for women in panchayat

In a significant develop ment, the Madhya Pradesh government has raised reservations for women in gram panchayats from 33 to 50 per cent. Announcing a clutch of measures to make the lives of women physically safe and financially secure at a specially convened mahila panchayat (the first of its kind in the state) late on Sunday, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said the state government would introduce gender budgeting from the next financial year.
