The Madhya Pradesh electricity board's grandiose scheme of using solar power to electrify far-flung villages in the state has come a cropper. The Rs 4.50crore spent on electrifying around 1,000 villages in teh state have gone down the drain with more than 90 per cent of the solar photo-voltaic panels installed for the purpose lying out-of-order. The scheme has now been abandoned.
