The Central share of power has come down by 1200 megawatts due to closure of 11 units of Central Grid’s National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). This has affected power supply in Madhya Pradesh resulting in less supply in the evening. Six out of seven units of NTPC’s Korba unit and five out of ten units of Vindhyachal remained closed for last several days. Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Power Trading Corporation Limited PK Vaish has apologised to consumers for power cut which had to be resorted to due to short supply of power from Central Grid. He hoped that power will be supplied as per requirement soon with the power generation situation returning to normal. Unit No 4 and 5 of 500 megawatts each of NTPC’s Korba thermal power station are lying closed since September 8, 500-megawatt Unit No 7 since September 14, 500-megawatt Unit No 6 and 200-megawatt Unit No 1 since September 18 and 200-megawatt Unit No 2 is closed since September 27 due to technical snag. Similarly, 210-megawatt unit of NTPC’s Vindhayachal thermal power plant is lying closed since September 14, 210-megawatt Units No 1, 3 and 4 and 500-megawatt Unit No 7 are lying closed since September 24. Managing director Vaish has informed that power generation at thermal power plants of Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company has also been affected due to paucity of coal. At present, only 1350 megawatt power is supplied from the thermal power plants of Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company. Presently, peak hour demand of power in the State is 6,000 megawatts wile supply is about 5 thousand megawatts.
