The Government of Madhya Pradesh has taken a major initiative to explore alternative strategies for sustainable development by bringing together some of the most brilliant brains of the coun- try to put together, discuss and set out the roadmap for the future course of action. President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam would inaugurate a three-day national seminar on alternative strategies for development in Bhopal, on August 10 being organised at the RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration. Several questions about the present model of development, ranging from compatibility of high growth objective with finite resources of the planet to the very paradigm of development, rooted in the Cartesian-Newtonian mechanistic world-view, are being raised.
