Nair: Industries aiming at overall growth of India

Technology Day was celebrated on Tuesday at Advanced Material and Process Research Institute (AMPRI), Bhopal to commemorate the momentous accomplishments of science and technology. This day is celebrated every year to commemorate the spurt of technologies starting with the launching of HANSA aircraft by CSIR, the series of atomic blasts at Pokhran by Atomic Energy Commission and the firing of Trishul missile by DRDO on May 11: , 1998. Director AMPRI Dr Anil K Gupta started the day's proceedings with the above history. He introduced the great technologist of India and the chief guest of the function former Chairman Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Bangalore Dr CG Krishnadas Nair. He said that R&D laboratories are doing applied research, it should be directed towards product development and the user agencies should be involved in the entire process to enhance the applicability of the product. The chief guest Dr CG Krishnadas Nair delivered a lecture on material research, environment and sustainable development. He said that after independence industries have been set up as `modern temples' aiming at overall growth of India. He maintained `we were knowledge seekers from the very beginning and science and technology related developments are the engines for growth'. He suggested various methods and energy saving processes related to reduce pollution created by industrial process. He also highlighted the need for recycling metals and use of e-waste generated in large quantities. He further said that focused research on sustainability and further growth of human civilization through conservation of materials and energy and control of pollution is the need of the day. Scientist AMPRI Dr Navin Chand proposed the vote of thanks.
