TALCHER: The Bharatpur open cast coal mine at Talcher coalfield, linked to Nalco captive power plant, is on the verge of closure due to non-availability of land to extract coal. Due to land constraints, the daily output has come to 22,000 tonne from the normal 45,000 tonne. As a result, the coal dispatch to Nalco plant - which was at 15,000 tonne to 16,000 tonne a day - has come down to an average of 10,000 tonne. A coal official apprehended that if the land problem was not solved soon, the mine will have to be closed. As per official sources, Bharatpur mine needs a bypass road linked to Padmavatipur and Rakus to be cut immediately to enable the mine to expand.
