Narmada water to feed Kshipra river in Ujjaini

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that 10 cusecs of water of Narmada River will be lifted from Omkareshwar Canal near Barwah and fed into Kshipra River near village Ujjaini in Indore district under Narmada-Kshipra-Simhastha Link Project. Chouhan gave in-principle sanction for the project costing about `432 crore prepared by Narmada Valley Development Department at a departmental review meeting here on Wednesday. Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development KL Agrawal and Chief Secretary R Parasuram were also present at the meeting.
Reviewing various schemes of Narmada Valley Development Department, Chief Minister Chouhan directed that the schemes should be completed within stipulated time-limit. He directed that work of Narmada-Kshipra-Simhastha Link Project should be done in mission mode. Pace of projects’ construction work should be accelerated. Chouhan instructed that target should be fixed for project-wise works to be completed within time-limit. He directed to chalk out a plan for bringing Narmada water to Malwa region.
The Chief Minister said that utilisation of 18.25 MAF water of Narmada River should be ensured till the year 2020. E-measurement system should be implemented in the department like the Water Resources Department.
It was informed at the meeting that 10,740 hectare irrigation potential has been created in the first quarter of the year by the department.
Under Bargi Diversion Scheme, construction of 703 metre long tunnel has been completed. Irrigation target of Rani Avantibai Lodhi Sagar Project has been increased from 35,000 hectare to 75,000 hectare. Narmada Valley Development Principal Secretary Rajneesh Vaish and other officers were also present on the occasion.
