An additional 50 million hectares of irrigation potential will have to be created in order to achieve the irrigation requirement by 2050 in the country. This was stated by the chief engineer of Central Water Commission M R Baig at the recently concluded Eighth National Water Convention at Udhagamandalam (Coimbatore).
