A new procedure "spinal stimulator implant" to cure backache has been performed on a 45-year-old patient from Mauritius at the Apollo hospital in Hyderabad.A team of doctors, headed by Dr Rajsunder Raj, director (pain management) at Napean hospital in Sydney, performed the operation on Thursday, on the patient who had earlier undergone four surgeries for lumbar disc prolapse back home. In this procedure, pain killers are not required and the treatment, in the long run, is cost effective, he added.
