New NTPC power plant in Orissa will increase pollution, claims report

The 2,000 MW power plant of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) at Kaniha once completed will further add to the environmental pollution and increase the atmospheric temperature of the region, inquiries revealed. The foundation stone of the plant was formally laid by Union power minister P R Kumaramangalam at Orissa on Saturday. The plant will meet the power requirements of the states of Andhra Pradehs, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Pondicherry.
