In a significant development aimed at checking vehicular pollution and bringing about a qualitative improvement in the performance of vehicles, an Expert Committee has been set up under the Chairmanship of N.R. Krishnan, former Union Secretary for Environment and Forests, to look into the computerised emission check system, to set up specialised emission testing facilities and define fuel economy standards for new vehicles.
