National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has been engaged as the nodal agency for exploitation of geothermal energy in the country by the ministry of non-conventional energy sources (MNES). As per an official release, NHPC has been assigned the work of installation of a pilot geothermal power plant at Tattapani geothermal fields in Chattisgarh. This will be followed by setting up a mega watt size pilot power plant for which MNES will bear funding to the tune of Rs 4.6 crore.
