Piqued over false promises of political parties seven villages in Hardoi district have decided to boycott election saying if political parties are not concerned about their problems why should they vote for them.
“This year we will not get swayed by the false promises by the political parties and their leaders. We will boycott the General Elections 2014. No vote if there is no development,” said Durvijay Singh resident of Chauwapur Village.
The villages that have decided to boycott the elections include Arjunpur, Kharagpur, Bara Gaon, Chauwapur, Khasaura, Chachupur and Shekhpur.
The reason behind the election boycott is the false promises by the political parties in connection with the construction of much needed Arjunpur bridge on the Ramganga river in Hardoi district.
The villagers are so agitated that they had refused the sitting MP from Hardoi, Usha Verma, to conduct her rally in these village and denied to give her their votes.
The tradition of boycotting the elections is not new in Hardoi as the residents of Jamnipur village had boycotted the Lok Sabha elections 2009 on the issue of unavailability of water in the village.
A resident of Arjunpur village Pawan Singh said that political parties had promised that they would construct the Arjunpur bridge on Ramganga river when they had come to ask for votes in the last general elections and assembly elections in 2009 and 2012 respectively.
“We have trusted the political leaders but they had never lived upto our expectations. It will not work this year as we will not vote for any party. All are same,” he said.
Telling about the issue Om Pandey of Khasaura village said that the villages Kharagpur, Bara Gaon, Chauwapur, Arjunpur, Khasaura, Chachupur and Shekhpur etc were located in a region surrounded by five rivers named Ganga, Ramganga (Kunda), Lilwan, Garra and Gambhiri rivers.
These villages are situated 50-55 kilometers away from Hardoi headquarters near Hardoi-Farrukhabad border. In the rainy season the residents of these villages had to face lots of problems in commutation as the pontoon bridges which are made on these rivers are destroyed.
“In 2009 general election Usha Verma, who is sitting MP from Samajwadi Party, had promised that she would get the bridge made if wins the election. She forgot her promise and did nothing for the area,” said Nakul of Chauwapur village adding “this will not be tolerated anymore. We do not trust any political party. We will not participate in this general elections.”
Besides the villagers of Shekhpur village are also agitated due to electricity problem. The residents of this village too have planned not to vote any party in this general election.
“We will boycott the Lok Sabha election 2014 this year because there is no electricity in our village for a long time. The electricity wires are present in the village but we do not get electricity. When we approach the concerned authorities we come to know that the electricity is there but on papers,” said Anoop Agnihotri resident of Shekhpur village.
