NGOs and the government have always been considered the key movers of social and economic development. To understand the equation between them, a study was conducted recently by a group of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students. The study focussed on the villages of Khojawada, Balicha, Margia Phala and Pareda in Rajasthan's Udaipur district. It showed up how several establishment initiatives like the Central Rural Sanitation Programme, Old Age Pension Schemes, Rashtriya Parivar Labh Yojna, Samekit Banjar Bhoomi Vikas Karyakram, Sunishchit Rojgar Yojna and Jawahar Rojgar Yojna are quite inadequate. Even the Gramin Jalapurti Yojna, under which more than 35 lakh hand-pumps have been installed, isn't effective.
