Hopes of finding lunar water were dashed on Wednesday when Nasa announced none was detected during a high-speed satellite crash on to the moon earlier this year. Astronomers had already warned they had seen no hint of water on examining images of the Lunar Prospector satellute's spectacular crash into a lunar volcano on July 31.
