No illegal construction in Elephant corridor: HC

THE Madras High Court has directed the State government to ensure that no illegal construction was made in the area shown as elephant corridor in Mudhumalai area in Nilgiris district.
A division bench comprising justices S J Mukhopadhaya and M Duraiswamy gave the direction on November 4 while passing further interim orders on the public interest writ petitions from `Elephant' G Rajendran of In Defence of Environment and Animals, B Chandran, Mudumalai Pazhangudiyinar Nala Sangam and M Narasimhan, president of TN Vivasaya Sangam, Masinakudi panchayat Committee.
The bench added that no person should be allowed to put a fresh solar/electrical fencing within the elephant corridor proposed by an expert committee. So far as the existing solar/electrical fencing was concerned, the court would hear and pass appropriate orders on the next date of hearing, the bench said and posted the matter for further hearing on November 19.
