Bhubaneswar: There has been no respite so far in the in the heat-wave conditions in the State with at least 14 districts recording over 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday the death toll due to sunstroke rising to 82 according to unofficial figures although in official records it stood at 20 today. The hottest day was experienced at Sambalpur recording 46.3 degrees Celsius, four points below Saturday’s temperature. The reduction appears inadvertent as the temperature in other places stood at almost the same as on the previous day. Hirakud recorded 46.2 degrees Celsius followed by Jharsuguda recording 40 degrees. Titilagarh, the hottest area in the previous years, recorded 45.5 degrees followed by Sonepur, Balangir and Bhawanipatna which recorded 45 degrees Celsius on the day. Temperature in other districts, except the coastal areas varied between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius. The state capital today recorded 40.1 degree. The intense humid condition, however, has made the life of the city denizens miserable. The Met office warned the situation to continue for another two-three days with thundersqual at some places. The situation in the state is complicated by simultaneous, frequent power cuts under the alibi of burning of transformers at many places and their repair.
