The Noida Authority is set to commission the largest sewage treatment plant (STP) in Sector 168 of Noida in the first week of June. The new plant has a capacity of cleaning 50 million litres of sewage daily. Till now, the 35MLD treatment plant in Sector 123 was the largest. Officials said that after construction, commissioning of the plant was delayed due to uncertainties in deciding the route through which effluents would be transported for disposal. The matter has now been resolved with the UP irrigation department allowing the discharge pipelines to pass through land owned by it. “Work has commenced on laying the pipelines. It is expected to be completed in a week,” said an Authority official. The plant would treat sewage generated from residential colonies in Sector 91 and from near Phase-II area of Noida. Sewage generated from new sectors along Greater Noida Expressway would also be channelled to this STP. Sequential batch reactor (SBR) technology, which has lately been introduced in many of the old STPs, would be used in the Sector 168 plant. Levels of biological oxygen demand and chemical oxygen demand, commonly used parameters to check effluent quality, have significantly come down in treated effluents after the introduction of the SBR technology. With the commissioning of the Sector 168 STP, the total sewage treatment capacity of all treatment plants in the city would reach 212 MLD. Officials said a comprehensive plan is also being worked out for operations and maintenance of all functional STPs.
