Even while claiming to reach a base-load surplus by 2006 and declining to give the necessary security packages to two IPPs pursuing their projects, the Karnataka Government has approached the National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd for setting up a 2,000 MW power project based on either coal or liquefied natural gas (LNG).
