Ramagundam, a once barren and sun-scorched land, is often referred to as 'Agnigundam' (a fire ball) of Andhra Pradesh with temperatures soaring up to 48 degrees centigrade during the peak summer season. The town is still the hottest place in AP. But the tropical heat is stated to have come down by about 3 degrees on account of a massive afforestation programme undertaken by the National Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC) which had set up a 2100 MW Super Thermal Power Station in the vicinity.
