Nuclear plant donning fresh shroud

  • 11/01/1998

On Dec 15, a huge container was unloaded at a dock at Tokyo Electric Power Co's first Fukushima nuclear power plant. Inside the container was a new 7 meter high stainless steel tube known as a shroud. It is meant to cover the fuel assembly inside a nuclear reactor's pressure vessel. The world's first attempt to replace a reactor shroud has begun at the company's No.3 boiling water reactor.
