For more than 40 years, Japan's long-term policy toward nuclear power has been outlined in what is known as the long-term program for research, development and utilization of nuclear energy, which has set forth a schedule of expansion based on the premise that nuclear power should be a main source of electric power for the nation. But now planners drop numerical targets as public supports falls after criticality accident, economic limitations surface.
