The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), the operator of the state's bulk power grid, said yesterday it was sponsoring a conference on incentives to reduce electric demand for the summer of 2001. Reducing electricity demand in New York State is especially important for this summer when power supplies are expected to be tight in New York City and Long Island, according to the state's energy officials.
