Officials briefed on prevention of diseases, waste management

Ensure that civic solid waste is cleared expeditiously in urban and semi-urban areas during monsoon to prevent spread of communicable and infectious diseases, Monitoring Officer for monsoon preparedness in the district and Principal Secretary Apurva Verma told officials here on Friday.
Reviewing the monsoon related preparedness and relief works following the recent rains in Karur district Mr. Verma said that the task must be on the priority of the municipal commissioners and town panchayat commissioners.
The senior official also called upon the TANGEDCO officials to concentrate on ensuring that low-lying power lines were mended and any electricity induced mishaps do not occur. Besides, providing electricity to areas that require relief during times of urgency was important, he stressed.
Mr. Verma enquired with the Health and Family Welfare department officials and Animal Husbandry department officials whether they had enough stocks of medicines and drugs to meet large quantities of immediate demand, to which they replied in the positive.
Mr. Verma, who is also the Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Textbook Society, inspected the Venjamangudalur causeway across Kudaganaru where water flowed over the structure, posing danger to traffic and public, for a couple of days. He also inspected the head sluice across Noyyal River in the district. He instructed the officials to have enough stock of sand bags in case breaches as two major rivers cross the district.
Collector V. Shobana, DRO T. Christhuraj, Karur RDO Shanthi, Tahsildar Balasubramanian were present on the occasion.
