Japanese government officials tried to ease concerns among residents living near nuclear facilities in Ibaraki Prefecture, following the death Tuesday of JCO Co. employee Hisashi Ouchi. "The residents will not suffer from acute troubles," said Makoto Akashi, executive of the National Institute of Radiological Sciences, an affiliate of the Science and Technology Agency. However, there is a possibility that people exposed to even small doses of radiation from the accident in Tokaimura could suffer from organ problems after several years, officials said.
