The Centre and the Planning Commission are now actively considering a hike in resources for the Food for Work and Wage Employment programmes. Rural development minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, speaking at a review session of the progress of the Rs 11,000 crore Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) here with senior officials of the ministry, also disclosed that the SGRY was in line for a comprehensive revamp. This will include consideration by the government for an advance release of the second instalment of grain to calamity affected areas, if necessary. In addition, the core ministry is also thinking of amending the SGRY guidelines to ensure greater community involvement and transparency at village level, paving the way for optimum and quality utilisation of funds.
