The drug controller of India has cleared an indigenous genetically engineered oral cholera vaccine for trials in the humans. The vaccine was developed jointly by a team from the Institute of Microbial Technology in Chandigarh, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology and National Institute for Cholera and Enteric Diseases in Calcutta, under a project initiated by the department of biotechnology two years ago.
