Packaged drinking water eludes PFA net

The proposed Act to bring bottled or packaged drinking water under mandatory quality control and under the purview of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), a "political decision" in this regard is still pending at the Centre. Though the Central Committee for Food Standards (CCFS), an advisory body constituted under the Prevention of Food Adultration Act (PFA), had recommended an amendment to the PFA Act to prescribe standards for 'packaged drinking water' along with mineral water (in line with the standards drawn up by the Bureau of India Standards ), nothing concrete have come of their recommendations.
