A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Monday directed the Pollution Control Board to inspect the leacheate treatment plant being installed at the waste treatment plant site of the Kollam Corporation and report whether the deficiencies pointed out by the Board had been rectified.
The Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P.R. Ramachandra Menon issued the directive when a writ petition filed by the Kollam Corporation seeking police protection for carrying out the works in the plant and waste disposal came up for hearing. The Corporation said the works and disposal of waste were being obstructed by the Manushyavakasa Paristhithi Sangham.
The court also directed the pollution control board to state about the present stage of the installation works. The reports should be filed in two weeks. The court also asked the Sanghom to give in writing the undertaking given before the court that it would not obstruct the dumping of wastes at the plant.
