Plan Panel hikes fund allocation to Rs 12,000 cr

Following the NCMP dharma, the Planning Commission has hiked its allocation from the Rs 10,000 crore promised in the Budget to Rs 12,000 crore in order to step up spending on social welfare, agriculture and education. At the first meeting of the full Planning Commission since the UPA government took over, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh chaired the meeting which hiked allocations for primary education by 159 per cent including a Rs 1,232 crore for mid day meal schemes by states, agriculture and rural development.
