The Planning Commission has in principle agreed on the discontinuation of seven Centrally sponsored schemes out of 80 schemes recommended by the finance ministry. But the Plan panel has ruled out scrapping other schemes as they pertain to healthcare, education and rural development. The discontinuation of the seven schemes would save Rs 700 crore for the government.
