The Government proposes to draw out water for public use from drill wells that do not yield any viable mineral resources. "There are times when drilling for coal or other mineral resources yields only water. Such borewells are normally sealed if they are found unfit for mining activities. We have proposed to draw water from such bore wells for community development," said Mr Prahlad Singh Patel, addressing his first press conference after assuming office as Minister of State for Coal. The subject was discussed by the Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry of Mines and Minerals last week.
