While nearly 30 lakh urbanites in Punjab have no access to safe drinking water, the sub soil water in the Faridkot-Kotkapura-Bathinda-Sangrur-Moga-Abohar belt is unfit for human consumption. Informed official sources told Tribune News Service that even in big cities like Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Patiala and Moga, 35 to 40 per cent of the poeple did not have a proper clean drinking water facility.
