PM largesse to poorest districts

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will offer a special gift to people living in 25 most backward districts in the country by providing for them Rs 15 crore per year. The announcement to this effect will be made on October 2. During the Tenth Plan period, as much as Rs 45 crore will be spent in each backward district. In the coming three years, Rs 5,940 crore will be spent to develop 132 poorest and Naxalite infested districts in the country. The rest, approximately Rs 6,560 crore, will be spent in developing Bihar and Koraput-Bolangir-Kalahandi districts of Orissa.
