In order to stop the damage to the environment by cutting trees during various festivals, Mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale on Wednesday said the civic administration would initiate action against those selling branches of trees in the city. "The selling of branches like banyan tree during vatapornima would not be allowed in the city as it was damaging the environment,' Bhosale said after distributing banyan tree sapling to women corporators for plantation to mark the vatapornima. She also urged the citizens to not to buy the branches of any tree being sold in the market when the green cover in the city is dwindling. The public should instead take up drive of plantation during every festival, Bhosale said appreciating the plantation drive under taken by the state social forest department.
