The Neyyattinkara police on Tuesday conducted raids and seized equipment, including loudspeakers and sound amplifiers, from several persons who were violating sound pollution norms. N. Jayakumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the raids were on those violating court orders on restricting sound levels at festival venues, political meetings, and public places. Over 50 loudspeakers and amplifiers were seized during the raids in the Balaramapuram and Naruvamoodu areas, he said. The action against sound polluters would continue in other areas under the jurisdiction of the Neyyattinkara police, he said. The action was initiated against those using sound equipment in residential areas, with the decibel levels violating the prescribed limit of 45 decibels by several times, in some places going over 90-100 decibels, Mr. Jayakumar said. The action was taken as per rules stipulated under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, he said.
