The Planning Commission has projected an 8 per cent decline in poverty levels during the next five years with the percentage of the BPL people expected to go down to 19.17 per cent by 2007 from 27.01 per cent estimated in the 55th round of consumption survey conducted by the National Sample Survey Organisation (July 1999- June 2000).
