Haryana Power Utilities on Sunday claimed that the availability of power is more than the demand and it intends to give round-the-clock qualitative power supply to industries. For this, the total installed capacity of power generation (from all sources, including the State’s own projects and long-term arrangements from other sources) has increased to over 10,000 megawatt. At present, the availability is more than the demand, claimed Devender Singh, Principal Secretary (Power) and Chairman, Haryana Power Utilities. Singh, while interacting with the industrialists of Bhiwani district said, the industries had been given electricity supply for 23.30 hours a day last year against the schedule of 20.30 hours. Earlier, the schedule to supply power to industries was 18 hours a day. He said that to meet the increasing demand of power in the State, which is eight-ten per cent per annum at State level and 15-20 per cent per annum in Gurgaon and Faridabad, the Haryana Government is regularly making all out efforts to create additional capacity of generation. The power utilities are likely to make arrangements of an installed generating capacity of 18,000 to 19,000 by 2016, said he while adding that much capacity would be sufficient to meet the increasing demand of power in the State. Singh said that the power transmission and distribution system is also being strengthened accordingly. As many as 53 new sub-stations have been commissioned in the state during last one year. Existing capacity of 177 sub-stations has also been augmented and 450 km long transmission line were constructed at a cost of Rs 654.12 crore. All this has helped improve the quality of power and also facilitated the discoms to meet the rising need for electricity, he said. A facility for online registration of applications for new electricity connections as well increase/decrease in load has also been introduced. Under the scheme, the applicants are not required to visit sub-divisional office and can apply online. They will also be able to see the status of their application.
