The power ministry in an official communique has stated that out of an installed capacity of 93,000 mw only about 20,000 mw of capacity needs to be "vigorously monitored for Y2K compliance by October 31, 1999". The general drift of the release is that there is no reason to be scared on account of Y2K non-compliance in the power sector as things are by and large hunky dory. It is only the plants which have been commissioned after 1985 which have got Y2K problems, the release says.
